Capability 01
Connected Products
We turn physical products into connected digital products: the device-side integration, the connectivity, and the services that receive the data and act on it.
When this work is needed
The situations that bring a business to this capability.
- A product that has to report its state, location or usage back to the business that made it, or to the people who own and service it.
- A product that needs remote diagnostics and selected remote control, so a service visit starts with the facts rather than a guess.
- A new product generation where connectivity is part of the specification, and the electronics, firmware, radio and cloud decisions have to be made together.
- An existing product line with a controller, a bus or a sensor set already in place, where the question is how to get that data out reliably and what to do with it.
What we engineer
- 01Device-side integration
- The link between the product's existing controllers, sensors and buses and the connectivity layer: what is read, how often, in what format, and what the device does when the link is down.
- 02Connectivity and protocols
- The transport the product needs for its environment: BLE for a companion app at arm's length, Wi-Fi in a workshop, Zigbee and mesh networks across devices, cellular in the field, and CAN, NMEA 2000 or Modbus on the product's own network.
- 03Device-to-cloud services
- Ingest, device identity, configuration, command and firmware update services, sized for the fleet and built so that a device is never stranded by a change on the platform side.
- 04Product data
- The data model behind the product: what a device, an owner, a dealer and the manufacturer each see, and how telemetry becomes diagnostics, service history and product insight.
Technical scope
The scope of a project is agreed in writing before work starts. These are the areas this capability normally covers.
- IoT and connected-device architectures
- Product telemetry and remote monitoring
- Selected remote control and digital switching
- Embedded system and sensor integration
- Diagnostics and service connectivity
- BLE, Zigbee and mesh networking, Wi-Fi, cellular, LoRa-class low-power links
- CAN, NMEA 2000, Modbus, ARINC 429 and vendor protocols
- Device identity, provisioning and configuration
- Over-the-air update and fleet management
- Product and telemetry data models
Constraints we design for
- Power and duty cycle
- Battery products report on a budget. Sampling, radio and processing are designed against the energy the product actually has.
- Link loss
- Every connected product spends time offline. Local buffering, store-and-forward and reconciliation are part of the design, not an afterthought.
- Lifetime
- Products outlive platforms. Interfaces are versioned, updates are staged, and the device keeps working when the cloud changes.
- Safety boundaries
- Remote control is scoped to what is safe to do remotely, with the product's own safety functions left where they belong.
Where it applies
Sectors whose systems this capability is engineered for.
- Marine & Vessel Systems
Connected vessels, onboard networks, remote monitoring, owner and service systems, and the manufacturer's own systems behind them.
- Connected Consumer Products
Embedded hardware, connectivity, companion software and service platforms that together make up the ownership experience.
- Industrial IoT
Sensors, gateways, edge systems and telemetry feeding operational platforms and the business systems around them.
- Specialist Mobility & Vehicle Systems
Vehicle data, telemetry and embedded integration, and the connected ownership and service systems built on them.

Discuss a project
If a product, operation or business system spans devices, software, data and real-world constraints, we can help define and engineer the system around it.
